Composer Franz Schubert left us with Symphonies, chamber music, and more than 600 Lieder (songs) before he died at age 31.
Schubert’s creative genius is demonstrated when he combined chamber music and song in his composition “Der Hirt am Felsen” (Shepherd on the rock). It is composed for piano, Clarinet, and Soprano.
While the singer is sad about not being with her love, she sings to him from the rock (German, “Felsen), and the song echos from afar.
