Playlist for the Viola.
Unlike the violin, its cousin, the viola, was actually quite neglected by composers. Yes, there are some amazing compositions but they are few.
Mozart wrote a masterpiece for viola AND violin, with orchestral accompaniment. Bela Bartok and Max Reger wrote sonatas for viola alone.
In my playlist called “Hank’s viola” on Spotify, I have included the following:
1. French composer Hector Berlioz composed a gorgeous piece called “Harold in Italy“. It has an amazing solo for viola.
2. The Mozart Sinfonia Concertante, mentioned above.
3. A sonata for viola and piano by French composer, Darius Milhaud.
