Yesterday afternoon I listened again to violinist Julia Fischer perform the concerto number 3 in G-Major by Mozart. My sense has always been that this music must be played with elegance and grace, rather than in a grandiose way as one might play the Tchaikovsky or the Brahms concerto.
Sure enough, I was totally delighted with this recording even though it is pretty old. Old is often better than new…. we get to hear the following on this recording:
Mozart:
Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major, K216
Violin Concerto No. 4 in D major, K218
Adagio for Violin and Orchestra in E, K261
Rondo for Violin and Orchestra in B flat, K269
All performed by Julia Fischer (violin), with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, the late Yakov Kreizberg conducting.
Gramophone Magazine wrote:
“…these performances are full of disciplined subtlety and astonishing interpretative maturity. The G major Concerto, K216, is lush and spirited, the traditional-style performance lacking nothing in warmth. The relaxed, cantabile style of her playing in the final movement serves the dancelike nature of Mozart’s music.”
