Following his excellent series of the Mozart/Da Ponte operas, conductor Rene’ Jacobs presents a vibrant new recording of Mozart’s masterpiece with a uniformly excellent cast headed by the young German lyric tenor Daniel Behle as Tamino.
Other singers include Marlis Petersen (Pamina), Daniel Schmutzhard (Papageno), Sunhae Im (Papagena), and Anna-Kristiina Kaappola (Königin der Nacht).
This recording represents the peak of René Jacobs’s Mozartian enterprise: after showing us an alternative way of looking at the Da Ponte trilogy and taking a profoundly innovative approach to the two great opere serie (Idomeneo and La clemenza di Tito), he has now set out to harmonize and clarify the many viewpoints exposed in Die Zauberflöte, ranging far beyond its Masonic rituals and mixture of dramatic genres.
