Through the magic of the Internet I was able to watch violinist Janine Jansen as she performed with the Berlin Philharmonic LIVE today. This was made possible through the “Digital Concert Hall” which broadcasts concerts to be seen by the public world-wide.
I watched at 10 AM California time, which was 8:00 PM in Germany.
Ms. Jansen performed the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, and it was excellent. Think about the fact that Ms. Jansen has likely played this work many many times before. And she had to succeed in bringing forth the passion, the sadness, the emotion that is contained in this work!
The Vienna Press critiques were not kind to this music when it was first performed. But the public persevered, and the concerto became a crowd pleaser.
