Erik Satie!
Pianist Alexandre Tharaud has given us some terrific recorded music. While some of it is French, there is also great Bach, delightful Chopin and very beautiful Schubert. Now Tharaud gives us a wonderful collection of Satie’s compositions: The first disc has solo piano music, and the second CD features collaborations: some two-piano works with Eric LePage, French chansons with chanteuse Juliette, who has the “right” kind of voice for this music. There is a wide selection of music, some of it well-known, most of it not. We only get the first Gymnopedie by Satie, but all sorts of other great music. And there are other collaborating artists such as acclaimed violinist Isabelle Faust.
This is a beautifully packaged 2-CD set with access to downloads of extra bonus tracks.
‘My aim in these two discs has been to offer the richest possible panorama of Satie’s piano and chamber music, spanning his whole lifetime. Immersed in the world of Satie, we were touched, and often deeply moved by the trust he shows in his interpreters.’
