Johnannes Brahms composed this sonata in the year 1894. During this period in his life he had perfected and reached a high level of maturity in his compositional approach to structure and emotional content.
He found renewed hope in all that is beautiful and powerful in life through his colloboration whith Clarinetist Richard Muhlfeld; there he found a beauty of sound that was so special to Brahms’ soul that he composed the op.114 trio, the op.115 Quintet, and the Clarinet Sonatas op.120 no.1 and op.120 no 2.
