Amihai Grosz was born in Jerusalem, Israel, in 1979. He was named first Principal Viola of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra on 01.09.2010
In a Post elsewhere in this Blog, I told you about the Israeli concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic. Let me tell you about their leader of the Viola section:
Amihai Grosz began his viola studies at the age of twelve, initially with David Chen at the Jerusalem Academy of Music, and later continuing with Tabea Zimmermann in Berlin at the Hanns Eisler Musikhochschule, and with Haim Taub at the Keshet Eilon Music Center in Israel.
Grosz is a founding member of the Jerusalem String Quartet and as a concert soloist has already appeared with various renowned orchestras of Israel and Germany.
Amihai received first prize at the Brown-Roger Siegel Competition and in 2007 he won the Gottesman Prize for viola at the Aviv Competition.
Grosz was a founder member of the excellent Jerusalem String Quartet since its inception in 1995. He has been appearing regularly with the Jerusalem Quartet on some of the most prestigious stages worldwide, such as Wigmore Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, The Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Hercules hall in Munich and the Konzerthaus in Berlin, Tonhalle in Zurich, Opera house in Sydney, Oji hall in Tokyo among others.
As a soloist, Amihai has performed with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, the Rishon LeZion Symphony Orchestra, Israel Chamber Orchestra, Ludwigsburg Festival Orchestra, Munich Chamber Orchestra and the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin Orchestra among others. He also collaborates regularly with Maestro Daniel Barenboim in the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, where he leads the viola section.
Amihai plays a 16th century Gaspar da Salo viola that was given generously to him from a private collection
