Japan’s Tragedy
Everyone knows about the horrible tragedy in Japan: Earthquake; Tsunami; Nuclear reactor damage; death, injury, and thousands of people are still missing.
Alan Gilbert is fairly new as the current conductor of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. He has taken over the leadership of an orchestra which, in the past was headed by such masters as Leonard Bernstein, Bruno Walter, and Gustav Mahler. Gilbert’s mother, who is Japanese, plays in the first violin section. Undoubtedly, the Gilbert family must have relatives in Japan…
Recently, the New York Philharmonic dedicated a concert to an expression of support with the people of Japan.
