The opening concert of the Salzburg Festival, for many regarded as the world’s most renowned music festival, is by tradition a high-profile event. In 2010 the Festival celebrated its 90th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the Great Festival Hall.
In this recording, Daniel Barenboim was soloist and conductor of Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto. This is my favorite of Beethoven;s five piano concerti. And it is a terrific performance, as you can experience–in part– from the video, below. Also performed was Bruckner´s poignant Te Deum with four world-class singers, and the chorus of the Vienna State Opera.
Here is a video from this opening concert: The Anton Bruckner Te Deum for Soloists, Choir and Orchestra:
And here is the Beethoven concerto for piano and Orchestra Number in 4 G-Major Op. 58, with the Wiener Philharmoniker, conducted by Daniel Barenboim.
