Young Kissin

Evgeny Kissin

Mr. Kissin is one of my favorite pianists because I admire the following aspects of his performances:

  • Great musical feeling; fine phrasing; flowing musical line; warmth of interpretation; emotional playing; percussive performance, when needed; an honesty of expression; amazing technical execution.

In this recording we get 3 CD’s with a whole lot of Schumann’s masterpieces, many of which are not performed frequently. Yes, there’s the piano concerto; but we also get the Symphonic Etudes, the Variations, and many solo pieces, such as Carnaval, and more.

Here is Evgeny Kissin in Schumann’s Fantasy in C, op. 17

And here he is performing the Schumann – ‘Widmung’

Let’s now see some very early videos, when this fine pianist was still in his teens:

First, here is Evgeny Kissin, in 1987 performing the Etude No. 2 in F minor ‘La Leggierezza’ from “Trois Etudes de Concert”; Music by Franz Liszt (1811-1886)

And finally, here he is at age 15, performing the Chopin Polonaise op 44
