Performed by Jonathan Biss (piano), with the Elias String Quartet
The Schumann quintet was composed at a time of majore output of new works for Schumann. He composed his three string quartets Op.41, the Piano Quartet and a set of Fantasy Pieces for piano trio, all in 1842. The piano quintet is a captivating, almost spontaneous work, and is a brilliant example of Schumann’s inspiration from start to finish.
Jonathan Biss is one of the most exciting pianists of the younger generation of pianists, widely regarded for his artistry and deeply felt interpretations.
Formed in 1998 at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, the Elias String Quartet has quickly established itself as an intense and vibrant quartets.
